Last but not least here's Michel's story. She work Last but not least here's Michel's story. She works very long shifts on the Covid ward and like all the others is a true Lockdown Hero ! My name is Michel and I am 51. I was born in Caversham and now live in Woodley. I am currently employed as an Aspirant Nurse at RBH. The pandemic has affected me professionally, working in a respiratory ward caring for patients with Covid-19. My overarching memories will be : 1. The unpredictability of this disease- patients experiencing marked improvement and deterioration in a short space of time. 2. No visitors! Spending as much time as possible talking to the patients and putting their family photos where they could see them. 3. Putting on the PPE and feeling a little apprehensive on my first day, stepping onto the ward - putting all my faith in the PPE and that it would keep me safe and well. 4. The long-stay patients who, when discharged, all the staff lined the corridor to applaud them out of the ward - I never did it with dry eyes. Personally, the pandemic has effected me the same as most other people . I have only seen my mum and my eldest son from a distance and all my friends only online. But very grateful not to have lost anyone close to me. I have no complaints of government handling of the pandemic but also so many people have stepped up in many different ways. I think this time has demonstrated people's resilience, friendship, support and kindness. Life will never be quite the same! Thanks Michel, what an inspiring story, stay safe - Neil

Name and Age Charlie - 35 2. Place of birth Ascot, Uk 3. Where you live now Three Mile Cross 4. Occupation Social Prescriber part time and at the time covid hit I was running a franchise called Creative Minds delivering art sessions in the community. This stopped instantly and I took on work at the Reading Response Hub for people with suspected Covid. 5. How has the pandemic affected you and your family professionally and personally ? My family are all self employed so it's been a big hit, gradually however work is starting to come back in so we are hoping that more positive times are on the horizon. My partner and I were due to move in together just as the pandemic hit and given I started working at the Response Hub this has now been put on hold. He too is a key worker but in the IT world, we feel blessed to have had work throughout this. 6. If you were PM would you have done anything differently I think hindsight is a wonderful thing, I wont criticize. 7. Looking to the future do you think this pandemic will change the world for the good ? I hope that some of the positives we have seen over the months will continue but I fear that human nature is to return to a comfort zone so I do wonder if as soon as people are able, their old ways will resume and the world will be back in a rush. I have been working as a key worker and covering weekend working where usually I work Mon- Fri. My husband has taken in the combination of home working and home schooling !! This has been a challenge for us all adjusting routines and working practices. Managing our boys concerns over me working as they have obviously heard and have an understanding of the seriousness of COVID has also been a challenge but they have been amazing. Not being able to see family and friends to socialise and unwind is difficult. My work family as well as my home family have certainly helped me cope with the stresses and anxieties of working at the moment but I do feel very proud and motivated that my job in clinical trials will hopefully help develop treatments and answers to helping cure this virus 6. If you were PM would you have done anything differently I think that whoever was prime minister was going to be in a very difficult position and would face opposition to any decisions made .. 7. Looking to the future do you think this pandemic will change the world for the good ? Yes - I feel people will hopefully feel the community spirit and value the quality time with friends and family. Where you live now Reading, Berkshire Occupation Operating Department Practitioner (Anaesthetics and Recovery) How has the pandemic affected you and your family professionally and personally ? I think in many ways we are in a state of helplessness during this pandemic as we cannot go about living life as we know it. As a result it has evoked fragility and vulnerability, we are not in control of anything. For example, not seeing family, not having social outings with friends or just going shopping or walking without dodging every other person you come into contact with. How we underestimated and took for granted the importance of human contact and interaction, only God knows if we are ever going to be able to freely hug loved ones when we meet. I have struggled with not having anything to look forward to in the near future like a holiday or an event (normally music related). I am a single mother and my son has struggled with not being able to go to school, see his friends and not seeing his dad who lives in Wales. My family who are all over the world worry about me as i work in the healthcare industry. My mother who is in Zimbabwe covers me in prayer daily and always declares ‘God is in control’. Thankful for technology as it has allowed us to keep in touch via video chat. Work wise, a full day wearing the Protective personal Equipment (PPE) has been challenging in so many ways, it gets very hot and sweaty and i end up getting headaches by the end of the day. The good thing is colleagues are much more kinder and nicer to each other, i guess this is because we are all going through the same anxieties. Hoping a vaccine will soon become available and we can go back normal. Looking to the future do you think this pandemic will change the world for the good ? I think the world has had a RESET button pressed and I sincerely hope and pray that when the dust settles, we will reevaluate our lives and take stock , realise how little we need, how very much we actually have a

Katie Age. 26 Place of birth Slough, Berkshire Where you live now Basingstoke, Hampshire Occupation Phlebotomist/ HCA in GP practice How has the pandemic affected you and your family professionally and personally ? We've recently welcomed our first baby, 6 months on we entered a new world I'm sure many only thought would be seen in films. A world where we became restricted of basic interactions with close ones. Shopping for every day needs became a battle, and the words "social distance" and "essentials only" were repeated constantly in the media and social platform world. It was a shock as I returned to work early from maternity leave to help support my team. Entering a completely new standard of work procedures. Seeing patients in the car instead of greeting them with a familiar friendly face they were used to, they were met with a 5'4 head to toe plastic covered HCA that could barely be recognised as another human. I think both on a personal and professional level it's been an emotional and mentally draining period in my life. You want to hug those patients who've lost loved ones to the virus or any other cause. Those that are suffering with mental health due to the restrictions and just sob because they've finally managed to see another human in the flesh for the first time in 6 weeks, regardless if it is a stranger taking a blood sample. The impact I've seen has been eye opening. Saying that the community spirit and support resembles ww2 mentality. Many elderly patients who I've seen have commented on the warm feeling they get seeing their local community rally and pull each other through. If you were PM would you have done anything differently The only thing I'd maybe change, for fear of a 2nd wave would be to hold off relaxing lockdown restrictions. But who's to say. Anyone in this man's position would not be able to make a nation completely agree and happy on decisions made. I think given the circumstances, he's done the best he can. He has to go on what others advice also. So choices made aren't always his sole

You can read more and maybe help by visiting his Facebook page Woodley Volunteer for Covid-19 I recently had the pleasure of meeting and photographing him and his family and you can read below how this pandemic has affected him - 1. Ronnie Goodberry - age 60 2. Place of birth - Reading, Berkshire 3. Where do you live now - Woodley, Shackleton Way 4. Occupation Driver At Ford Group / Volunteer community-based Responder / driver 5. Pandemic Affects Has come in waves to be honest. Firstly it scared me then I became involved with the local convid 19 group & was asked to become an admin. I took over the food coordinator role and it was then I hadn't realized how many residents used the local food banks etc. I've always had a community spirit in some way or another so i just threw myself right into this which has kept me very busy indeed - 12 hrs a day 7 days a-week. I've put pleas out on social media for various donations - food, toiletries, birthday presents for families in isolation. So I've kept myself really busy, and to this date over 25k items have been donated & some days our lounge looked like a warehouse which in turn was delivered to the food bank & vulnerable residents in emergency situations 6. If I was PM I do believe the government waited far too long to lockdown. I would have locked the UK down sooner. The UK death rate was far too high & in my opinion could of been prevented if this had been done. Local hospitals care home homes not having the appropriate PPE quantities was ridiculous and should of been acted upon more urgently. 7. As to Future I don't know what this pandemic will do for the UK. I don't think anyone can, for me its made me a stronger person more determined to make life worth living, and I'll take nothing for granted anymore.
